This discussion is about the proof available that James Armstrong, of Orange County is direct descendant of John ‘of Brookseboro’ Armstrong and his wife Jeanette Corry.

An area of Chromosome 20 is shared between several individuals:

# Karl David Wright
# Cynthia Curtis, A183502, US7875087
# Marie Wilson
# Не показывать
# The granddaughter of Mamie L Baker

Individual #1 is the person for which the overlaps are given. Overlaps on the same area have been proven via FamilyTreeDNA Matrix between persons #3, #4, and #5. Person #2 has not been verified because she is on a different service than the others.

The areas of overlap, precisely, are as follows:

* For #2, 51731191 - 53936950
* For #3, 51381809 - 53393473
* For #4, 51381809 - 53393473
* For #5, 53009625 - 56412822

This is also in the context of individual #1 having many dozens of Armstrong matches that have been traced back to known and acknowledged descendants of John ‘of Brookseboro’ Armstrong . These other matches appear in other places on his genome but these matches can also be relayed if requested.

Individual #2 is a recent addition to this list. There seems little doubt she is descended from a Samuel Emerson, born around 1736, but his origins have been murky as well. For that reason, only the name "Armstrong" has much weight for her tree.

Individual #3 is the most compelling direct match here. This match lives in Ireland today and can trace her lineage back to George Bothwell and his son Thomas - as noted by Thomas when he married in County Fermanagh, Ireland. The mother is not listed there, but a George Bothwell and Sarah Armstrong emigrated to Ohio in the 1830s, and Thomas fits into that tree well. The only caveat is that he would have had to return to County Fermanagh before he married. Sarah's Armstrong lineage in Ireland is not well recorded, but she is an Armstrong in both the right place and the right time.

Individual #4 has a supported ancestor by the name of Matthew Armstrong, who was born between 1727 and 1737, and settled in the American South. Once again, this can be counted on for the name alone, since his ancestry, while very compelling, has not yet been proven. Recent evidence of a Matthew Armstrong marrying a Johnston at Clogher, County Tyrone, is evidence that it was that particular family group from which Matthew came.

Individual #5 is the individual for whom the claim is made that they are an Armstrong descendant. Her ancestry goes as far as James Armstrong, of Orange County . Her father and maternal grandfather have been eliminated by DNA testing as sources of this DNA overlap. The naming of James's first son (William) suggests that James's father was named William, by Irish naming convention. That would fit him as a son of John of Brooksboro's first born son William, who also emigrated to America.

"Samuel Emerson" --> "Samuel Armstrong". Sorry.

Erica Howton, this is the autosomal DNA evidence I have for a relationship between James Armstrong of Orange County and my DNA match. I wanted to get it all summarized here in the context of DNA match evaluation. Having the main project be signed off on by a geneticist is still in the works as well, but you now have exactly the evidence that I do for this ancestry.

FWIW, I also wanted to see how well it works in practice to hang discussions off of a project like this and have them be helpful and meaningful for individual claims. Does this work for you?

Sure, discussions from project are a good tool.

The biography / documentation for this John ‘of Brookseboro’ Armstrong is very weak - that is, totally nonexistent on geni. I’d like to see that developed.
