She no longer is linked as daughter of Col. Richard Jones, IV & Elizabeth Jones (although their biography has not been updated) at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jones-37299

Which indeed would be correct if she was born 1734. Richard & Elizabeth married in 1745.

Removing curator note & awaiting feedback.

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/125683545/sarah-ann-abernathy__... shows dates Jan 1724-18 Dec 1801. “Age 23 Years 11 months d/o Richard (1718) & Elizabeth Chamberlayne Bette (1729) Jones 1st husband Miles Abernathy 2nd husband Philip Goode. Sarah's Listed children must have been her step children since their birthdate was after hers.”

My interest is that her husband Miles Abernathy is my sons' 6th great grandfather making her their 6th great grandmother.
My sons have not done DNA.
I will see if I have anything on Sarah in my tree

They descend through her son Battee: Battee Abernathy, Sr

Battee Abernathy, Sr was born April 07, 1760 so her latest birth date is 1745. That makes it very difficult for her to have those parents.

SAR line but doesn't list Sarah's parents: https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/916956:2204?ssrc=...

There are trees where are parents are seen as Abraham Jones and Sarah Elizabeth Batte (b 1692)
I have not worked on this line other than what you see in Geni, for the most part.

I do not have parents for her in my personal tree at Ancestry--

Note in Richards profile listing his children

Sarah Ann JONES b: AFT 1767 in Amelia Co., VA

Which if true makes her a second wife & not Batte’s mother.

Check wills.

Battee is the key for her, however.

Please feel free to do what you need to do and I will revisit but probably not soon unless I am able to get one of my Abernathy children or grandchildren a DNA kit and I can work with that as well as paper trail.
:)

Ahhh- we are posting over each other. Sorry about that

Not sure what "list" the memorial manager refers to in the Bio

Perhaps Peter's?

Cynthia Curtis, A183502, US7875087 - it’s not my decision, she’s your relative, not mine. I can only advise suggestions.

1) your key is her birth date. Either she’s born say 1734 or she’s born 1767.

2) Richard Jones https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jones-17695

His will was dated 19 August 1778, and it was probated in the October Court 1778. Age: 59, 1778, Nottoway Parish, Amelia, Virginia, United States

Imprimis first after my just debts are paid I lend unto my loving wife Elizabeth Jones the following slaves, Viz: Jack, Stephen, James, Jane, Nan, Stewart, Cuff Stewart & John Stewart, also the land and plantation I now live on, it being a tract of four hundred acres, during her natural life & at her decease the aforesd salves and their future increase, to be equally divided between my children Margaret Jones, Elizabeth Royall, Sarah Jones, Rachel Jones, Thomas and William Jones to them and their heirs forever, and the aforesaid tract of land to my son William Jones to him & his heirs forever …

Which means:

- he had a daughter Sarah unmarried in 1778
- so this Sarah Batte cannot have been Batte Abernathy’s mother

However, it seems clear from DAR that Miles Abernathy had a wife “Sarah Ann Jones Goode”.

So my suggestion is for you to set up a first wife as mother of his children.

The alternative is to disconnect Sarah from parents.

Disconnect her.
Just don't lock her parents field, please

DNA would not be relevant unless one could possibly build maternal lines.

Erica Howton I mean I would work on the matches with DNA. Some of these are close enough for autosomal.
I just don't want to hold you up from what you are working on and especially since I have not worked on them recently.
I hit the line hard and heavy several years ago and literally did the legwork looking for them.
I know the male line is as good as I could get it back then and have not revisited a lot.
I have a direct Abernathy line as well but only because these are all in the same community. Two of my sons are Abernathy. I have two Abernathy grandsons.
The name is special to me but I trust you with the profile.

He is my focus and her mother was surely a Battee. It's another clue to who she is.

Disconnected from parents. The only field locked is her name (too much “no naming” to risk it).

I’ll set up a Richard Jones’ daughter Sarah as per his Will & make MP., which can be removed if it proves out they were the same person.

I wish I could say the name Batte clearly points the way, but there were a number of Battes to be honored as namesake.

You should add the Philip Goode husband now that you have a reference.

Erica Howton thank you.
Yes, I have Battee, all spellings, both sides direct.
I think that may be helpful later in placing her correctly
MP'ing and locking what IS known is very helpful.

Re: He is my focus and her mother was surely a Battee. It's another clue to who she is.

I’d suggest being careful with that assumption. By this date, naming patterns were not rigid, and you get some surprising namesakes. If you’re looking for patterns, look to the Scotch Irish rhythms, where the placement in the family determined the namesake. Sarah Jones would not have been Scotch Irish most likely, but she married one, so …

scots irish naming patterns

The pattern generally went as follows:
The first son was named after the father's father.
The second son after the mother's father.
The third son after the father.
The first daughter after the mother's mother.
The second daughter after the father's mother.
The third daughter after the mother.

Traditional Scottish and Irish people often named their children using the following patterns , yet this was not always true

Differences I have found

The only difference between the Scottish & Irish naming patterns was that when the Irish father remarries after his first wife died, the first daughter born to this new marriage was often named after the deceased wife, and included her whole name.

Also, If a child died young then their name was then used for the next child of the same sex, thereby keeping alive the name of the relative who they were 'named for'.

There were cases within the Irish community where a child was named after a person of esteem, eg: an Aunt, or an Uncle. They have even given their child, as a middle name, the last name of the pastor/ priest of their local Parish or an influential person in the community.

Also, parents may have used the mothers or grandmother's maiden name as a child's middle name.

So - you want to make sure you have all the children entered.

Not sure they would have still used such naming patterns-- Miles and Sarah...
Robert Abernathy, of James River is the furthest back. The first Abernathy in my sons' line was born a hundred years earlier and came to America in the 1650's.

Legend is they all came from George Abernathy de Barrie (George Abernathy, de Barrie) but a lot of folks have taken a lot of trips to figure it out lol and he is disconnected here at Geni so I trust the reason why.

My sons' Abernathy came here on a prison ship:
"He was one of 1610 prisoners of war shipped to America by 1652,and arrived in Jamestown,Virginia where he served 4 years as an indentured servant. He appears to have been on the losing Scots side against Oliver Cromwell's English Roundheads in either the battle of Dunbar on 09/03/1650 or the battle of Worcester on 09/03/1651. The losing Scots were led by Lord David Leslie. The final battle took place at Worcester,England by the river Severn And resulted in 3,000 dead Scots and up to 10,000 prisoners."

here are a LOT of Battee in my old neck of the woods and there are several Battee Abernathy so I still think may be the source of the name.

There is an Abernethy, Scotland.
I used to tell my sons about it and hoped one day they would see it.
Only theirs is spelled with two A's instead of 3 e's
