I am looking for evidence of the recent theory that the wife of John Guttery Sr, known as Elizabeth Baskett, was a daughter of Thomas Cordwell / Cardwell and Elizabeth Collyier. Trying to track down some source material.

There is no evidence of a direct connection found in the Christ Church Parish Register...

Note that the Christ Church Parish Register recorded events that occurred in its parish, but there were also events for people who lived in nearby King and Queen County. This suggests that those people came to Middlesex, VA looking for the nearest minister, or that the minister travelled on a circuit of the nearby communities.

Marriages: Thomas Cordwell and Elizabeth Collyer (no date listed, but grouped with another for 12 Apr 1662.
(This family arrived in America from England c1636 and bought land around Goochland, VA for tobacco farming. Goochland was founded from west Henrico in 1728.)

Birth/Baptisms: No birth records for this couple entered in the CCPR.

Birth/Baptisms: Elizabeth Basket daughter Jno. & Eliz. Basket baptized 14 Mar 1679. (note: daughter too young to be wife of John Guthry)
Birth/Baptisms: Thomas Basket son of Jno. & Elizabeth Basket was baptized 16th of April 1682
Birth/Baptisms: Henry Basket son of Jno. & Eliza. Baskett baptized p. Mr. Pead 23th of March 1683/4

Marriages: John Guthry & Elizabeth Basket both of this parish was married 6th Feb 1686
Marriages: (2nd Entry) John Guttery of Scotland & Eliz. Baskett &c. 6 Feb 1686

Deaths: John Baskett dyed November ye 28 & was buried November ye 30, 1720. (if this is husband of Elizabeth, he died after Guthry marriage.)

Understanding that the CCPR is not a perfect record book, the following should be considered...
There are no birth records for the Thomas Cordwell family listed in the CCPR.
There are no death records for John Basket prior to the marriage of Elizabeth Baskett and John Guthry.
Elizabeth, daughter of John & Elizabeth Baskett would be too young to be the bride of John Guttery.
There is a death record in the CCPR for John Baskett in 1720, which is after the DOM for John Guthry and Elizabeth Baskett.

What is the evidence proving (or even suggesting) that Elizabeth (Baskett) Guthrie was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Colliyer) Cordwell?

I found the GENI profile for [Thomas Cardwell, Sr. Thomas Cordwell].

It tells us:
Thomas Cardwell the Immigrant,an indentured servant barrelmaker who came to Virginia in 1636 at the age of 21 aboard the ship "Tristram and Jane", which sailed fromLondon that spring. He may have been from London as he or his son had a retirement farm at the crest of what is now Church Hill in Richmond,VA, on a 1686 map which was named Farrington, which is now a suburb of London. His ship passage showed that he paid a much higher fee than the other indentured servants aboard; they landed at what is now Strawberry Banks, Hampton Roads, VA in the fall of 1636 after having sailed from London to the Carribean and then back across the Atlantic before the winter storms hit. A researcher in Utah said he could read and write as well. He paid off his indenture and bought land around Goochland Co., VA for tobacco farming.

The [https://www.caudillreunion.org/the-records-vault/new-colonial-recor... Caudill Reunion] website also provides some document info and transcriptions.

Thomas Cardwell Sr. was the son of William Cardwell (1590-1660) & Mary Wiltshire (1592-1662) of Kirkham, Lancashire, England (who later moved to Thornhill Parish, Yorkshire, England). Thomas immigrated to Virginia Colony in 1636 at age 21 on the ship “Tristram & Jane” and settled in King William Co., Virginia. Thomas first married Grace Carey Spencer (1615-C1646) from Shropshire, England in 1638 in King William Co., Virginia. It is unknown if Thomas & Grace had any children there. After Grace’s death, Thomas married Mary Elizabeth Collyer (1615-c1698) from Wilshire, Shropshire, England on April12,1660 in Middlesex Co., Virginia. Thomas and Mary had at least six children, four of whom lived to adulthood. They were: Thomas Jr. Cardwell (1660-1717), Mary Nora Cardwell Masey (1662-??), Penelope Cardwell Basket (1663-??) and Ann Cardwell Basket (1665-??). Sons Richard & William both died young. Thomas’s will was dated May 12,1687 & proven on July 6,1689. He died shortly after his will and was buried in the Old Christchurch Parish Churchyard in Middlesex Co., Virginia. Mary Elizabeth married again a John Williams on October10,1696 in Middlesex Co., Virginia. Thomas Cardwell was the first of the Cardwell Line to immigrate to the New World.

The will of Thomas Cardwell Sr. of Middlesex Co., VA dated May 12, 1687 and recorded July 6, 1689 leaves his plantation to his wife Mary and his two minor daughters, Ann and Nora Cary. Mentioning sons-in-law Thomas and John BASKET and appointing his son-in-law Raleigh Masey as executor, and Thomas Jr. and Job Richards as overseers of the will.

The family summary above that Thomas Cardwell did have 2 daughters who married men named Baskett. Daughters Penelope Cardwell and Ann Cardwell married Thomas and John Basket, but it doesn't indicated the specific bride for specific groom.

The will below it contradicts the summary a bit because it lists Ann Cardwell as a minor daughter, presumably unmarried when Thomas died in 1687. The will definitely mentions 2 Basket sons in law. Did the summary leave Elizabeth out? Are there any Cardwell documents naming her as a daughter?

Assuming that the John Baskett and Elizabeth Cardwell marriage is legitimate, the next question is where is the proof that Elizabeth (Cardwell) Baskett is the woman who married John Guthrie ?

They had 3 children baptized within CCP bet. 1679 and 1683/4.

No children noted in CCP after the DOM of John Guthrie to Elizabeth Basket 5 Feb 1686.

However, there is a death record for John Baskett in CCP in 1720. Is this Elizabeth Cardwell's husband? Or is there a known son also by the name of John?

Please let me know if you have other documentation that you have used to piece your theory together.

Thanks!
