Private James Webb - Very bad research on someone part

There are only three children in Letcher, Ky Benjamin Webb 1775, Mary Webb Adam 1775 and James Franklin Webb b/ 15 may 1787 married Elizabeth Pennington 1792-1848 His middle name is probably not Franklin someone probably just added it for some reason

There are no records of James Webb and Elizabeth Nelson that are said to be the parents of these three children. Benjamin Webb goes back to the 1810 Floyd County, Kentucky Census but there was no James Webb in any of these records. 1810-1820 1830 Perry and 1840 Perry Enoch on 1830 census with his father Benjamin Webb. That is as far as this line goes. No James no Nelson

After years of research think someone just picked up James in Berks and made him the father of the Letcher, Ky family, and every researcher has them as the parents without one source.
