Wikitree seems to dispute most of the relationships Geni is showing.

Sussex, England (United Kingdom)
Death: 1639 (53-54) Hingham, Plymouth, Massachusetts, Colonial America

Edward Hilliard

Anna Canterbury

William ‘the carpenter’ Hilliard, Sr. Is referenced in The Great Migration Begins so will start there.

Anderson, Robert Charles. The Great Migration, Immigrants to New England, 1634-1635, Vol. 3, G-H (Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1999), images of pp. 329-30 by subscription AmericanAncestors.org. https://www.americanancestors.org/databases/great-migration-immigra...

Anthony of Hingham had been disconnected from Nicholas Hilliard who seems to be the man discussed here:

Nicholas married Alice BRANDON, 15 July 1576 same Church.

There was also a Stillborn Child buried 27 Dec 1584, same Church, Father NICHOLAS

f they had a Son Anthony born c 1585 Arundel Castle, Sussex, it is possible the Mother Alice was visiting or had a connection through her Family.

I see you must be in the US.

Shipping Record;
Wm Hillard, 21, Occp Carpenter on the Elizabeth & Anne, 1635

May I ask how this William was linked back to the the other Hilliards mentioned?

his link seems to refer to William the carpenter.

Nothing definite on his family and no mention of father. The passenger list has no obvious family members coming over with him either.

Private User Might find the Arundel Castle info of interest, but I’m removing it from Anthony of Hingham MA and William the carpenter.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hilliard-789 comments:

I have been trying to sort out this William Hilliard after not looking at what info I had for many years. Originally Robert Anderson in his sketch of William Hilliard, (https://www.americanancestors.org/databases/great-migration-immigra...) stated his belief that there were two William Hilliards in the colonies simultaneously in the mid 1600s. He later related his change of mind on this in the Great Migration Newsletter, V.1-25

Great Migration Newsletter, V.1-20. https://www.americanancestors.org/DB1567/i/21156/29/426834293, indicating that he felt there was in fact only one man. I had communicated with Victor Grant Hillard, who authored an article about this [MD 49:95-98] via email in 2003 in which he expressed his strong opinion that there was only one William Hilliard. Perhaps he was able to eventually able to convince Mr. Anderson?

Cross referencing the discussion:

https://www.geni.com/discussions/257801?msg=1600571

Which is about the Virginia Hilliard family.

The two lines likely have nothing to do with each other except name coincidence.

Ann Hilliard Is not a known daughter of William ‘the carpenter’ Hilliard, Sr. Detached.

I’ve uploaded and attached as a source the more recent research from The Great Migration Project (2003 vs 1995). The team & R.C. Anderson analyzed early Boston records, and concluded that births recorded there did not necessarily indicate birth in that town. So instead of showing “no children,” as in the original sketch, they now support three children for William (I still don’t see a wife named Hester ‘Esther’ Hilliard):

William Hilliard

Hester ‘Esther’ Bate

Mary Farrow

Notes for the revised sketch are attached document

https://www.geni.com/documents/view?doc_id=6000000189421064825

The death for Hester / Esther is seen as 04/25/1655 at Boston. Any support for it?

Wikitree has the death for William as 25 Mar 1655 at about age 41 in Hingham, Suffolk, Massachusetts Bay Colony.

But I don’t see what that’s based on, either.

The original TGM record is “ after February 02, 1647”

In trying to follow the record dump in the profile, I’m not clear when William & Hester lived at Boston.

Thoughts?

I think the last record for William & Hester is their children’s baptism on 25 Feb 1655 at Hingham, and the 3 children were born at Duxbury, which is where their parents married on October 1640.

If anyone knows differently, please advise.

So returning to the other supposed children of Anthony Hilliard, of Hingham

There are no records of wife and children for him in History of the town of Hingham, Massachusetts (page 331-332), < Archive.Org >. Just the “possibly” relate to William.

The association with Anna Canterbury seems to be a property transfer.

Emmanuel Hilliard, of Hampton Looks entirely unassociated except for name coincidence.

I don’t know who Edward Hilliard is.

The profile for Anthony Hilliard now is this:

Anthony Hilliard

  • AKA Hilyard
  • Birth: about 1585 in England
  • Death: about 20 Oct 1657 at about age 72 in Hingham, Suffolk County, Massachusetts Bay
  • Parents: unknown
  • Wife: Elizabeth

Perhaps their children included

  • Anna, born about 1635, married Cornelius Canterbury

Notes

On Nov. 23, 1694 “[[Anna Canterbury Anna Canterbury] Anne Cantlebury] relict widow and executrix of the Last Will and Testament of [[Cornelius Canterbury Cornelius Canterbury] Cornelius Cantlebury] late of Hingham” acquired property in Hingham “granted in the twon book to [[Anthony Hilliard, of Hingham Anthony Hilliard, of Hingham] Anthony Hilliard] and possessed many years by [[Elizabeth Hilliard Elizabeth Hilliard] Elizabeth] his wife.” (Suffolk, Mass. deeds Bk.25;Pg.264)

Disputed relationships

From History of the town of Hingham, Massachusetts ... 2:331-32, digital images, < Hathitrust >

Anthony [Hilliard], had a grant of land in Hing., 1639. In 1663, a person of this surname was in Concord, N.H. This was ab. the time that the names of Otis and others from Hing. first appears among the early settlers of Concord and its vic. In a letter in Lincoln's "History of Hingham," p. 175, is is stated that "Emanuel or Anthony, Hilliard, was lost with seven other person in a boat going out of Hingham, 20 October 1657." Possibly the Anthony referred to may have been the Anthony who was early of Hingham."

Again, if anyone knows differently, please advise.

Well, actually, it really bothers me that Anthony & Emmanuel seem to share a death date, yet are clearly different people.

Was it the same sea accident going from Hampton NH to Boston and Hingham MA?

Did town of Hingham garble the event?

Did Anthony relocate to NH?
