According to Stirnet, Magdalen Burd is the daughter of Captain Edward Burd, younger of Foord. She is said to have married John Hunter of Crichton Dean and East Gordon on 19 December 1716, at Edinburgh in Midlothian, Scotland, but the record of this marriage confirms that she actually married John Hunter of Forrester Saltcoats. The marriage record reads as follows: "2d December 1716. John Hunter of Forrester Saltcoats and Magdalen Burd daughter to the deceast Captain Edward Burd of ffoord [married] 19th December 1716]."

On the face of it, it would appear that John Hunter of Crichton Dean and East Gordon may be the same person as John Hunter of Forrester Saltcoats, but Hunter of Crichton Dean is said by Stirnet to be the son of Patrick Hunter of Hunterston and his wife Marion Cunningham, and John Hunter of Forrester Saltcoats is the son of James Hunter of Forrester Saltcoats.
I would like to disconnect Magdalen Burd from John Hunter of Crichton Dean and East Gordon, because she has clearly been identified as the wife of the wrong husband, but I would appreciate the advice of other interested Geni subscribers. Any evidence that they may provide would also be welcomed.

Hi Neil

This seems to be the best solution to our dilemma. There is very consistent reference to John Hunter of Crichton Dean and East Gordon as a son of Patrick Hunter, but the name of John's wife is what causes the most difficulty (given the details in the scanned marriage record).
