I recently created a new tree. I imported a gedcom file, as instructed, however not all of my relatives (data) was imported. There's an icon on the relatives that have not imported all data that says, "gedcom import still processing ". It's been a week or so and this data has not been imported. I don't want to add the missing relatives.
Do i need to delete and start over or is there a better resolution?
Depending on the size and when profiles are merged it can take days, weeks, months or years to import a complete GEDCOM.
The import will stop on a branch when it finds a possible match.
At that point yo can decide what to do for that branch. If you or another user merges the profile the import for that branch will continue till the next match (so if all of the profiles for that branch are already in Geni it is much quicker to stop the import for that branch (but that has to be done for another user does the merge)
If you are a PRO user you can see the all possible matches that Geni finds for your profiles, if you are a basic user you can only see the first possible match (for the other matches you will have to guess which profile Geni thinks it could be a possible match).
Also if you are a basic user you can only find profiles you and your collaborators manage with the Geni search. You will have to use Google or other external search to find other public profiles (you cannot find private profiles with an external search engine)
So be careful with (missing) dates in your GEDCOM. If Geni has to guess the living status the profile will almost always become private (meaning most user won't be able to merge them and it can take forever to import your GEDCOM)
You may want to look at https://www.geni.com/projects/Connecting-to-the-Big-Tree/17983 for an alternative to importing a GEDCOM.
Be careful NOT to import a GEDCOM multiple times with first undoing the import, otherwise it will create duplicates. You also cannot use a GEDCOM to synchronize another site with Geni, importing another GEDCOM with the same persons will create a duplicate.for all those persons.
