Can anyone tell me if there is any documentation proving that Ann is Samuel's mother? Here are my concerns. Possible remarriage: There is a documented marriage between a widow Ann Auchmudy (spelled with a D) and Enock Kenyon, 24 Nov 1747, in Charlestown, Rhode Island. The bride is generally believed to be Ann, wife of Arthur Gates Auchmuty. However, we know that Arthur didn't die until 1797, so it is possible that Arthur abandoned Ann, and that she eventually declared him dead and herself a widow who was free to marry again. But we also know that Ann was a common name, and there were a number of Auchmutys in the area at the time, so is it possible that it was a different Mrs. Ann Auchmuty, a true widow, who married Enock?
Conflict: Arthur Gates Auchmuty married Ann Dickinson in 1734. In 1747, a Widow Ann Auchmudy married Enock Kenyon, also in Rhode Island. In 1752, Samuel Auchmuty was born, supposedly on the Pennsylvania frontier. Ann cannot be both the mother of Samuel Auchmuty and the wife of Enock/Enoch Kenyon. It is not known if Arthur Gates brought a wife with him to the frontier, where he was an Indian trader as early as 1754. Did Arthur's wife Ann move to the PA frontier with him? Or did Arthur take a second wife once he was in PA? His estate records mention that he was survived by an unknown widow. The answer to that question would tell us who was the mother of Samuel.
