This is the note about Mary Freeman on page 39 of the book John Freeman of Norfolk Virginia by Merrill Hill Mosher:
"Weynette Parks Haun, Bertie County, North Carolina, County Court Minutes (Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions) 1788 thru 1792 (Durham: By the author, 1984): 4. Mary Ward, widow of Philip Ward petitioned for dower in February 1788. A James ward is also a very close associate of the Bertie County siblings of Mary Ward."
Mosher was of the opinion that Mary (of <William<William<John of Norfolk) was still alive, living in Bertie County not Mecklenburg, and a dower of Mr. Ward in 1788. Not that she died in 1779 and was buried in Steele Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mecklenburg.
