Hi, I believe this is my Great Great Grandfather and Kazimiera Virsilaite is my Great Great Grandmother. They had a son Aleksandras Dobkevicius , who is my great grandfather, buried in St. Casimer cemetery , Chicago, ILL. His daughter is Helen (Elena) , my grandmother, born in Kvedarna ore Vidukle Lithuania.

Hi Luke,

It was nice receiving your note. I'm related to Aleksandras through his mother. Anelė Barbora Lileikytė (Lileikaite) is my 4th great aunt. She had lived in Palukstis which is about 50-75 Km from the locations that you mentioned. and actually Kvedama is about 35Km as the bird flies. So it's very possible that it could be the same Aleksandras Dobkevicius.

Sincerely,
Bob Waleyko

Hi Bob, That's very interesting. I just uploaded my DNA to "myheritage" site, but it takes several days to show up. If your DNA is on that site we should be able to see a match.

My wife and I just visited Lithuania two weeks ago and visited all these towns looking for gravesites , etc. She actually located living relatives on her fathers side. I wasn't able to find any gravesites, so I would be interested if you have any information on where Alekasandras or Anelė Barbora Lileikytė (Lileikaite) grave sites are located.

thanks,
Luke

It looks like Anelė Barbora Lileikytė stayed in Didysis Palūkstis her whole life, so I'm guessing that she may have been buried in the Varniai (old) cemetery. Unfortunately when I visited Lithuania in 2015, I didn't know where the cemetery was - it's just a little down the road from the church. However, I'm not really sure if she was buried there or closer to Palūkstis. The first Alekasandras moved to Kaltinėnai, so maybe he was buried there? I have my DNA on 23andMe, Ancestry, Gedmatch, and I believe Family Tree DNA. Not sure if I uploaded results to MyHeritage. If I haven't, I'll need to do that.

Bob

Bob, i know what you mean, we had a hard time searching the cemeteries in Lithuania. Since there are few records, you just have to walk around and look at each gravesite, but some have a large number.

My DNA is on Ancestry. I searched for your name in DNA matches, but no match found.

I received my information from the Balzekas museum in Chicago. They only found information on my GG buried in Chicago and his parents were Alexadras Dobkevicius and Kazimiera Virszylaite. They didnt find any information on Anelė Barbora Lileikytė.

Bob, I sent you an email yesterday, before I looked back at this discussion forum. Sorry about that, I just forgot that we had this discussion back in 2022. I havent looked at this for a whille. I dont see any matches on the DNA sites , so perhaps the common names of ancestors are just a coincidence. Although it is interesting that these ancestors seem to be from the same area of Lithuania.
