The note in the overview mentions he may be a Revolutionary War veteran, because there was one from CT with his name.
Some further evidence that this might be him is found in "History of Chenango and Madison Counties, New York", Volume One;
by James H. Smith, Published by D. Mason & Co. (1880); because it mentions that the Silas Champlin that lived there had moved from Connecticut.
