Research on Ambrose Hammon back to the most distant known Hammon ancestor, John Hamond (c1500-1546) has been ongoing since the 1930's. The use of professional researchers has been used in the past and to date there is no evidence as to who Ambrose Hammon's spouse is. The Elizabeth Hammon (KING) listed here is the spouse of Job HAMMOND. I couldn't figure out how to delete her. If someone could do that I would appreciate it.
Other corrections/additions I made:
Added his baptismal date and location. February 28, 1647 in St James Parish, Clerkenwell, Middlesex, England (Clerkenwell was outside the city of London during that time, but is now within the city itself).
I also changed his immigration from 1666 to before March 26, 1666. Ambrose is found the Cavaliers and Pioneers: Abstracts of Virginia Land Patents and Grants, 1623-1666, Vol. 1, where he is listed among 126 individuals. In discussions with a Colonial Virginia Society, I was informed hat this date is not the immigration date, but the date land was granted to the transporter(s). I was also told that immigration could have happened weeks, months, or even a few years prior to that date, depending upon how much "red tape" they had to go through before getting the land patent.
A trivial matter, but someone stated he immigrated with his father, John. I removed that. There is no evidence that John came to America at the same time as Ambrose. Research indicated John may have been a seafaring man and we believe he made several trips back and forth between England and America before finally settling in Old Rappahannock, Virginia Colony. We do not know if this was prior to or after Ambrose came to America. John is not listed among the 126 individuals in the land patent with Ambrose. John's last appearance in England records is his marriage to Dorothy Latham, June 22, 1669. This is at least 3 years after Ambrose immigrated, which lead many of us to believe John finally settled in America after Ambrose.
