Kia ora Jeff, I think you will find that there are many Doig descendants out there, including many who have corresponded with those who run 'The Doig Family Society' website to add and correct information, such as myself. Much of the information on Geni is from the website, substantiated with research from other official sources. If you look in the 'Overview' tab you will see the references used directly reference back to 'The Doig Family Society' website. You will find that 'John Doig' is listed as No. 20 on another page of the same website at this link: https://www.doig.net/DOIGF.html. Both pages have circa for his birth date - this means approximately, and the date that best fits has been used on Geni. There are, however, some inconsistencies that have occurred due to merges with profiles added by others who may not have seen the website we are working from. These need to be corrected, but it is a big job and takes time. However this is the only way we can have the most correct Doig tree, as unmerging will only see them remerged by someone else at some stage in the future resulting in the same problems. Working collaboratively on those profiles, both honours our ancestors and is in the spirit of Geni's goal to build the one World Family Tree.

Sorry for crashing your post, but I hadn't realised anyone was actively tracking the Doigs on Geni.

if either of you come across the parents of

Janet Anderson, SM/PROG
Janet Doig Anderson 36yr old British immigrant to SA on assisted passage on the ship ‘Chatham’ with her family in Oct 1859. Sent to Mr Dugmore's 'Fish River Ranch'
x Aug 25 1844 Mains And Strathmartine, Angus, Scotland - David Anderson

please please let me know. She's a gr grandmother of mine.

Oh interesting! I'm not that good with SA genealogy. There is a tree on Ancestry.com that has Janet Doig 1823- (they obviously don't know what happened to her!). Anyway, hopefully this is of some use:

Ancestry Tree:
Born: 1823 Co Angus, Forfarshire
Marriage: 25 Aug 1844 • Mains and Strathmartine, Angus, Scotland (you already have this so looks to be the same person)
Mother: Janet Doig b. c. 1776 Angus, Scotland (sadly no father given)

1841 Scotland Census
Janet Doig 65
Janet Doig 20
So father dead by this time?
Working as Linen HLW (this stands for Hand Loom Weaver)

This birth entry doesn't seem to fit, but is the only one I can see with Janet as the mother's first name?
Name: Janet Doig
Gender: Female
Birth Date: 29 Nov 1826
Birth Place: Scoonie, Fife,Scotland
Father: William Doig
Mother: Janet Grub

I've had a quick flick through the Doig website http://www.doig.net/DOIGK.htm but nothing obvious sorry. Please let me know if I can be of any further help - she will link up somewhere :). Deb M.

PS: At the moment I'm trying to link this ancestor, John Doig, to the Geni tree - he has a memorial page on Find A Grave: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/119354568/john-doig

As yet I haven't found the right one (d. 3 Feb 1855) but as he is buried in Kingsbarns Churchyard he is sure to be one our ours :)

Thank you, Debbie. Can you post the ancestry.com link?
I can't seem to get to it :-/

The My Herit. tree is mostly copies of mine on Geni

and still my ancestors profile is corrupt, very disturbing that someone can circumvent my family tree in such a nature.

After calming down and rereading your posting about #20 on the page you listed and then reading that entry and comparing it to my ancestors entry on the page I listed with the number 116 I find that these two entries are for completely different people based on the details of marriages and children.

Some of the dates align and some of the first names align but the entries of the two are clearly different and changing my profile to reflect your needs does not do my family tree the justice it deserves.

And telling me that I am reading your tree wrong is silly because this all started with mine and I have spent hours retracing the work on Doig.net after linking it to my grand mothers genealogical work form the '60s through the end of the twentieth century.

But you are the moderator of my work now as it seems and have disregard the fact that the 2 entries are separate in detail.

I entered the following profile on July 2nd, 2008 along with many others that you are also the curator of.
James Doig, of Dunrobin

I had a son linked which was correct and which you changed at some point well after July 2nd 2008. You also changed his son which I had accurately typed in to the Geni system which you also changed. This completely breaks my family links which I had accurately entered. You also replaced, either before or after breaking my links, the son of James Doig of Dunrobin -> John Doig, of the Mill of Cessintuille on March 22, 2016 almost a full 8 years after I had done the original work.

All of this line of the Doigs was entered by in on July 2, 2008 all the way back to Walter Doig, Chamberlain of Menteith and back to our forefather Walter Doig, the first Doig of record.

Again, I have done my research and know my family tree. At the moment my tree is broken sideways into a different Doig tree.

On July 2, 2008, in one day, I contributed an unbroken line of ancestry. This includes only what I hand entered which begain with the missing link to my family tree. The link that my grandmother would not live to see.

This is my ancestor that immigrated to the United States.
Robert Doig

This is my first recorded Doig ancestor.
Walter Doig

This is the profile of my great...grandfather that was entered on July 2, 2008 and then gutted on February 21, 2019.
John Doig

This Doig
John Doig, of the Mill of Cessintuille

and This Doig
John Doig Of Cessintullie
are the same person and should be merged correctly, or some other solution to fix my tree.

Unfortunately I evidently broke the correct links in November of 2016. Not a clue what my intentions where on that day but the changes I made obviously have to do with the breakage of my family line.

This all seems to be my mistake. Please accept my apologies.

Now, what can be done to fix things?

This Paul Doig is correct according to https://doig.net/DOIGK.htm
He is listed as number 171
Paul Doig

Is father is listed as 116. John Doig in https://doig.net/DOIGK.htm
Which should have been this profile that I entered on July 2, 2008 but which has been changed in ways I do not understand.
John Doig

My only goal now for this link is get my profile which is 171 Paul Doig linked as a son to his father 116 John Doig
As listed in https://doig.net/DOIGK.htm

I have just covered the entire history of which I speak and as it turns out I did not break anything.

Thank you for working on this.
