Peter Whitfield Hitt was born 2 Feb 1834 in Edgefield District, South Carolina and died 16 Aug 1918 in Blount County, Alabama. Peter was a 1/2 Cherokee son of Peter Hitt and his full Cherokee wife Sarah Whitfield. Sarah Whitfield is listed in the 1852 Drennan Cherokee Roll (aka the Trail of Tears Roll).

In about 1857 he married Sarah Jane Mitchell, who was a full Cherokee daughter of Eli Mitchell. Sarah, named for her mother Sarah, went by her middle name "Jane." Jane Mitchell is listed in the 1852 Drennan Cherokee Roll (aka the Trail of Tears Roll).

Peter W. Hitt served in Company B of the 31st Alabama Infantry, C.S.A. during the American Civil War.

Not sure that is correct because the profile says she died in Alabama

Public trees at Ancestry appear unsourced except for sharing the 1850 census and saying he was born 1834 while the gravestone says 1832.

The only wife that I see for Peter Hitt b. 1763 is Lucy and one son for them named Henry. The source for the marriage to Lucy Hitt on 23 Aug 1796 is:
