Yes. 2% in my DNA. There were enslaved people on my father's side who moved to Louisiana and were part of a free Afirican-American community. I've traced it back about 5 generations.
https://www.freeafricanamericans.com/ has some interesting information about different families and you might find your relatives there
Yes, I do. My maternal side of the family owned many slaves in South Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas and Louisiana so I have connected with ancestors I keep in contact with almost daily.
My paternal side also did in Georgia possibly North Carolina.
It breaks my heart to pieces. I have met some amazing people with forgiving hearts and some who have not.

I have one percent Ivory Coast and Ghana, I have one percent Cameroon, Congo and western Bantu people. How do I find out how that came to be in my DNA? Most of my DNA is Scandinavian, Scots, Irish and Germanic. This was a surprise, but not an unhappy surprise. I really would like to know more about it
I am African American on my paternal side my 2X Great grandfather was enslaved in Greenwich Connecticut and freed in 1803. His grandson went on to marry the daughter of a free Black man, who served in the Civil War at times as a sharpshooter. My biggest surprise was discovering I had 35% scattered European ancestry. And when i say scattered i mean across Europe with a concentration in NW Europe
