My name is Robert and my mother is a direct ancestor (Maria LaFond) I have done quite a lot of amateure research proving the fact that the coat of arms usually attributed to Etienne Pepin dit Lafond, (the pencil like drawing with the 4 quartered coat of arms) does not in fact belong to Etienne.
From my research, the coat of arms displayed here is for a John Lafont, an popular English merchant.
It is said that he is a descendant from an ancient French line, but since nothing is know of great value of Etiennes line before 1600, i have great reason to believe it is not in reference to Etienne. Seems to me, like many who do this sort of research, they see one family crest and attribute it to an ancestor without proof.
If anyone is curious as to how i came to this solid conclusion, please let me know here if you would like the evidence.
I would, however, like to find evidence of any Coat of Arms that Etienne could have used, if any. Please let me know if you have any leads!
