How does any intelligent person separate politics from genealogy and why peoples moved and married and died anywhere in the world.
Why so many moved to the New World was definitely political .
Why the Huguenots fled France moved to the Cape and USA was very political
Why my Jewish ancestors fled Europe was also political.
Even today poilitics very much dictate the migration of most people.
I am aware that many people are not very well informed.
Censorship a direct result of politics , denied many of proper access to information.
When poilitics and politicians involve themselves who can marry who and live whre it definitely becomes relevant to genealogy.
Genetics , someting different from genealogy , even though the politicians try to control it in the end shows , who people are really descendant from . No one can change that.
J P Weyers
I agree Phillip. I am so glad to have discovered that despite all the political manoeuvrings in South Africa over the centuries, I can now proudly acknowledge my "stam Moeder' as a Creole slave, manumitted from the Slave Lodge in Cape Town, as a young girl by a German soldier, who married her and established the paternal line from whom I descend. I was assisted in the discovery by Sandra, the widow of Robert Shell, many thanks to her.
Hi Philip Weyers. I agree 100% with you. Politics has dictated all movement in many countries not only centuries ago but today too. Most people are looking for freedom and safety for their family. However it is being difficult to find. Is it niw due to over population or is it because governments are growing greedy and are enriching themselves and no longer caring for the people that seem to be voting them in. Are they being bamboozled by these governments? Or is it just plain ignorance?
Lynette Smith - why it's so important to be transparent and not have censorship.
So many of us follow like sheep brainwashed by what we get told.
An historical perspective like this gives us so much information why our ancestors behaved the way they did and why some will never want to see reality.
Suddenly nowadays with access to so much more information we all can understand our own history better.
Phillip. We are well aware how politics shaped, and still is shaping, history. There are many books and websites dedicated to the subject. Personally I have many books on my book shelves on the history that shaped the Cape and South Africa. However, this site is dedicated to the genetic connection of people, no matter the historical background that shaped the events that created those connections. It therefore serves no purpose to repeat historical background events on this site. Please stay within the framework of the purpose of this site. Thank you.

If any of those that objected to this discussion ihad bothered to read the article by Professor Robert Shell they would qickly have seen that it is a histocal fact based account of lfe at the Caoe 1650 to 1850 .Not political at all. Not based on opinion.
Not politics or biased .Not Genetics !
They chose to see it as political or politics .Maybe unable to understand it ?
