J. Lonnie Austin was probably the child of John E. Austin and his second wife, Mary Margaret Sikes. John's first wife, Lavinia Eunice Hamilton was murdered by a slave on 25Aug1864, some 4 years before Lonnie's birth. John then married Mary Margaret Sikes later in 1864. Mary was the daughter of Enoch Sikes and Hannah Cuthbertson and was born in1829, in North Carolina. Mary had previously been married to Calvin C. Griffin who passed in 1863, with no mention of children.
I have not researched this branch of Austins very thoroughly and further research and proofs are needed. I am a direct descendant of John E. Austin and Lavinia Hamilton and have researched that branch.
