Some believed Andrew and Maria could have had a third son named Andrew (Jr). Thought to be born between 1747 and 1753, though birth and baptism records were missing, there are unsourced references to Andrew Junior's birth in 1749. The confusion arises possibly from a series of Rockingham County, Virginia land transactions where, our Andrew lived for a period, leaving by 1780. The land purchases and surveys, between 1782 and the early 1800s, involved an Andrew Bushong, George Bushong, Henry Bushong, John Bushong Jr., and Jacob Bushong. Intriguingly, except for the Junior on John's name, they are the same family names associated with Andrew's sons plus one extra for Andrew Jr. But upon analysis, these Bushongs are our Andrew's first cousins, Jacob Bushong, the husband of Maria Juliana Weigel, Lt. John Bushong (IV), his wife Elizabeth Sprenkel, and sons, who moved to Virginia. Lt. John was in the army there by 1782, and in 1783 appeared on Virginia tax rolls. Several from these branches ultimately settled in Shenandoah County, just over the Rockingham County line. In light of this, the existence of an Andrew (Jr) is not credible.
