Jacqueli Charlene Finley thank you..
But if bad duplicates are allowed to just sit, the whole picture is not seen. I merge the obvious and then try to sort out the rest.
Unfortunately, many really good researchers have excellent branches if not whole trees but once they know their line they stop or they see the mess on a public platform and just give up and go away
This is my DNA confirmed cousin's fifth great grandmother.
She is looking MUCH better now.
Anyone familiar with her, please weigh in <3
There are BAD trees everywhere.
Let's just make Geni
I just fixed. Better not to merge please just message the managers first if unsure - but yes there were a few messes. :) Thank you.
I am going to add sources.
This is my DNA confirmed Williams and Brooks line - as you are aware as one of our matches as well.
Thank you for bringing to my attention - you know I have the highest regard for you cousin!
<3
Jacqueli Charlene Finley there were two merges before mine. I messaged the manager of the one I know as he is my DNA confirmed Freeman cousin and she is his fifth great grandmother but he had no parents before the merge. I have not heard back from him yet but is a word day so may be a while
Thank you so much.
Maybe let's try to confirm the Native American ancestry for her and ask for her to be MP'd?
I think it is important enough to try.
Jacqueli, can you elaborate, please, on this?:
"This is my DNA confirmed Williams and Brooks line - as you are aware as one of our matches as well."
My cousin here is Freeman and he and I are not a match but his father and I and my nephew and his father are as well.
Only about half of all 4th cousins match so is always wonderful to have siblings, etc, test as well
Here is what I show in my tree on Ancestry.com for James Williams Sr. and Keziah E. Brooks (https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/46986586/person/66...) Hope I am not too far off? Sincerely, Dale Lee Lane (I am also on Geni, but my main tree is on Ancestry.com)
Ancestry.com tree is not a source but there are some sources on there you can check out.
I added sources and my DNA confirmed Tree from ancestry - and GEDMatch MRCA info - hope that helps.
Check out the profile source tabs for Keziah and James, Dale.
You may be a Lee descendant Dale by the Lee middle name is common with us. :)
Have you gotten your DNA done yet? LMK

No dispute. Just tagging Chad as he is a manager of one of the merged profiles and Dan Cornett as I had just merged in a profile with him as a manager
Jacqueli (in particular): As you may know, there are two things Curators can do on Geni to help preserve "known good" genealogical information:
-- lock individual "basic" fields for a profile.
-- lock the relationships connected to a profile.
(The profile image and the About description can also be locked, but those two are primarily for clarity and typically only done for "contentious" profiles.)
The Field locks prevent the values from being modified by anyone other than a Curator. Even after a profile is merged in, the original profile (which will have the MP-flag set to enable any of the various kinds of locks) will retain the previous values of locked fields. Typically there should be Source-tab references to support the "locked-in" value ... and there may be discussions or text in the About if there are strongly conflicting references for a field's value.
The Relationships Lock (RL) prevents any changes to the "connections" of a single profile: parents, siblings, spouses, and children. Only Curators can add to or remove profiles from that RL-ed profile.
When merging into a profile with the Relationship Lock set, all the profiles attached to the "incoming" profile will be disconnected; the net result will no changes to that immediate family group.
Note that the Relations Lock does not restricted changes to all connections of the rest of the immediate family. For instance: it does not prevent adding spouses to any of the children, nor does it prevent adding spouse to siblings. In addition, it does not prevent adding additional spouses to the parents or additional spouses to "primary" spouses. (e.g.: if the husband's profile is RL'ed, the wife could still have another husband added).
So to protect a whole "region", then, one asks for Relationship Locks on all of the "core" profiles, where each of those profile's "immediately family" is known to be both correct and complete.
When asking for Relationship Locks on profiles, one should consider where the "growing edges" might be; for instance, one might know that both parent's families are "complete", but only one of the children's family is known to be complete. In that cases, the RL could be set on both parents and on that one child ... but not on the other children (as their spouses & associated children might not yet be known).
As y'all are working through this branch, consider where it might be appropriate to ask for Field and/or Relationship locks in order to preserve the research which is being done. Curators are most often may not be the experts in any particular branch and thus rely on the documentation attached to profiles and the expertise of those who know that particular 'branch' the best.
