Edmund McDaniel's middle name has previously been given as Eldridge, however documentary evidence in the form of a U.S. government land grant, dated 10 August 1838, which to date seems to be the only document with his full name to be found, lists his middle name as "Edwards." The source of Eldridge may be Nannie McDaniel Ellis's "biography," which also misidentifies Edmund's mother's maiden name as Eldridge when it was, in fact, Edwards.
