I may be wrong, but I would suggest changing her family group settings instead:

Changing this should change what content triggers the emails instead of turning them off.

She doesnt want IN LAWS relatives (ie my side of the family) added to my husband/her brother's side as it connects us all even tho we arent related.

I think modifying her notifications settings is the best solution. Closing her family group down to just herself would have lots of consequences she does not want, and any larger would probzbly not help.
Disconnecting would be a major disservice to all of Geni since the relationship is real.

The whole glory of Geni is that it is One World Tree.
That means, among other things, the ancestors of one member of a couple are connected to the ancestors of the other member of the couple thru the couple. As are the full set of their relatives.

Anybody that does not want that happening is on the wrong platform.
They should either swallow their annoyance or leave, not harass people to change something they are currently doing correctly.
