This is an outgrowth of the Geni discussion https://www.geni.com/discussions/244450?msg=1539485 to focus on the Wise family.

Some questions to answer:

Where ddi they originate?

Are they all connected, if so, how?

Some clues include connections in the Wise Cemetery and Thompson Cemetery. More research is needed.

Profile to start us off Margaret Wise

More research is needed to confirm the information on John Wise (84) and Nancy Wise (66) with 25 year old Margaret in the 1860 census. It is stated that this John Wise was born in Virginia and Nancy was born in South Carolina. Is this John Wise b. circa 1776 the progenitor of the Wise family in Horry County? They all lived in proximity and different lines (with Nancy and possibly Margaret) are buried with the others at Wise Cemetery. More research is needed to confirm this.

Year: 1860; Census Place: Kingston, Horry, South Carolina; Roll: M653_1221; Page: 45; Family History Library Film: 805221

* John Wise - 84
* Nancy Wise - 66
* Margaret Wise - 25 (I think)
* Adora Wise - 3

This census is interesting because it puts the Wise family two doors down from A. J. (Andrew Jackson) Floyd., son of Lewis Floyd and 1st cousin to Avery.

* William A Wise 3
* Alice Wise 50

It is unclear who Margaret (14) is. Could this be Adora (3) of the 1860 census ? An older sister to John Oliver, William A, etc?

John Wise may be son or grandson of the 84 year old John Wise in the 1850 census noted. More research is needed on the Wise family of Horry as they are connected to many different lines and seem to have lived very independent lives for the times.

And we are off.....

Only 5 known named Wise family members in neighboring Robeson County, NC and all buried in Fairmont Cemetery. Interestingly seem to be descendants of George Clayton Wise (1883-1974) who was born in South Carolina.

Can confirm that the following served during the American Revolution with Francis Marion:

William Wise (who seemed to receive land and move to Beaufort District)

James Wise

John Wise (who had grants up and down the Pee Dee, it seems)

Jonathon Wise.

Thomas Wise applied for a pension. More research is needed on his file, but indications are that he served in some capacity in some war.

Only two Wise family members have been documented in DAR

Jacob Wise https://services.dar.org/public/dar_research/search_adb/?action=ful...

and

Jacob Wise https://services.dar.org/public/dar_research/search_adb/?action=ful...

both of Edgefield District across the state from the Pee Dee.
