Looking for my great grandfathers origin
He was 7 ft tall so you have to be a large human
I see the surnames of Brees,Breese,Watt and others that are the haplogroup Y m 269. This just tells me we are European
His family was attacked by the Comanches in Colorado in the late 1870’s
He was sold to the Martinez family
We know absolutely nothing about him.
I di however have a picture of him and his immediate family taken in 1907 in Tercio,Colorado
My grandfather was only five years old
Still lookin for his family

Not sure you have any stories about family members being killed in Colorado by the Native Americans in 1870
He was born in 1867 married a Native American and named him after her
He was Vicente Martinez
She was Vicenta Martinez. Believed to be from the surname Serna
If you are over 6foot five and have a similar story. I would love to converse with you
We have heard the surname Cambell as well
Watt may be it closer due to their size
Thank you

Such an interesting story. At least you know this much. I hope you find "the rest of the story". We have a similar story in our family of Pennsylvania settlers attacked at their homestead by Native Americans and children taken into captivity. They grew up and continued our family line.

I would do an ancestry dna test

I would echo what Barbara said. DNA is your best bet. Your unknown cousins will have the rest of the story. When you have a name, state, Land records, Marriages and death certificates your tree will start to take shape. Best of luck!

(Southern Colorado twin peaks).

Here is some information might be helpful.

Campbell is a Scottish and Northern Irish surname, and the surname Mathews was first found in Glamorganshire a region of South Wales, anciently part of the Welsh kingdom of Glywysing.

Similar surnames to Sobacchi are Tabacchi, Bacchi, Macchi, Bacci, Bonacci, Rocchi, Cocchi and Zocchi all Italian surnames.

Italians started settling in Colorado in the late 1850s, and, by 1922, roughly one in five people living in Colorado was Italian American.

Tercio is considered a ghost town and former coal mine and a post office called Tercio was established in 1902.

Prior to the arrival of the coal miners, the valley of the South Fork of the Purgatoire River was sparsely inhabited by Hispanics in settlements known as Torres and Rincon.

The Colorado Fuel and Iron company established Tercio in 1901 and in 1902 the Tercio mine produced its first coal.

A tercio was a military unit of the Spanish Army during the reign of the Catholic Monarchs and the Spanish Habsburgs.

During the 18th century, the tercio participated in Italian campaigns as well as those in Portugal, Spanish America, and North Africa.

Joe Isacc Martinez and Esmilia "Millie" Martinez 1919-1978

Joe was born April 18, 1918 in Yellowstone County, Colorado

Joe Issac Martinez, 91 of Cottonwood, California, passed away September 3, 2009

Joe was the son of Benito Porifio Martinez and Rita Martinez and the grandson of

Pablito Martinez and Conception Trujillo

I don't know if he is connected to the above family but here is his information:
Jose Isac Martinez appears on a Hospital Muster Roll in Fort Union New Mexico working as a Nurse in 1862 and he was a Private in Company D, 4th? Regiment New Mexico Volunteers?

The Independent Companies, New Mexico Volunteer Militia was organized in November and December 1861 for the defenses of New Mexico, the four companies were raised and financially supported by Lt Col Francisco Perea. Stationed at Albuquerque, the battalion was engaged in several campaigns against the Navajo. It was mustered out on 28 February 1862.

José is a predominantly Spanish and Portuguese form of the given name Joseph.

He could have been listed as Jose, Joseph or Joe on different records.

I also found information on a Vicente Martínez born 1867 Valladolid, Spain that's all I know about this person.

Vicente's daughter is listed as
Victoriana Gonzalez
1871 - 1931

I also found Victoriana Gonzales born in Yucatan, Mexico about 1871 and died in Nogales, Santa Cruz County, Arizona sometime before 1940 and she was married to a Pedro Gonzales.

Pedro Gonzales was born in Oaxaca, Mexico about 1836 and died in Nogales, Santa Cruz County, Arizona before 1919.

Here is some more information I found online.

Vincenta Andrés was born Dec 1868 in New Mexico and passed away in Greeley, Weld, Colorado the daughter of Andrés Rojas and Juana Marie Serna.

I haven't found a marriage record, but they were together in the same household.

Vicente Martinez was born Abt. 1867 and was either married or was a partner of Vincenta Rojas.
