Wikitree IS NOT the source of any info on Richard Bowen's profile. The source for no parents known is cited in his profile as

Source: Richard LeBaron Bowen Jr., "The Ancestry, Wives and Children of Richard Bowen of Weymouth and Rehoboth, Massachusetts," in The American Genealogist, vol. 76 (October 2001):263-278.

I uploaded the pdf to his Source tab so you can read it yourself.

Dean Richard Hobart - this is the line with a known fraudulent pedigree, if I remember right.

??? I am thinking I am missing something here. The article was published in 2001. It's been "out there" for over 10 years.

Erica Howton yes, ironic, another fabricated royal ancestor dispute. One would think there was some real money in it. I guess there was at one time.

Yes, Kentucky Howton’s were supposed to get a legacy left by London Houghton’s, if only they kicked in expenses for the English researchers. They fell for it, too, took up a cousin collection. Of course that “pass the hat” money was never heard from again.

They made the mistake of changing the spelling, and the letter was sent back Undeliverable.

:) And the New Jersey Houghtons fell for the same scheme. :)

I'm confused...Richard Bowen is my ancestor. There is question about his connection to royalty?

12/18/2021 at 6:33 PM

There is no question that Richard Bowen of Rehoboth has no known connection to royalty. There was a forged pedigree that claimed he was.

Thank you for clarifying, Erica.

From the Geni Master Profile, written some years ago:

His parents are unknown. There is a fabricated pedigree in circulation: see The American Genealogist in 2001. He is not the same as [[Richard Bowen, (died young) Richard Bowen, (died young)] Richard], son of Eleanor Bowen and Sir James Bowen, Kt., of Llyngwair who died young.
