I'm descended from John and Johanna Quin thru their son James. They were among the Fortitude passengers. James Quin was born in 1821, was 4 at the time of the passage. The record states that the family was from Kilbehenny in Cork County, although the town/village is located right on the Cork/Limerick line, and just down the road from the Tiperary County line. The last record I find in from the Peter Robinson collection is a 1825 accounting of rations to each person and family (LDS FHL film 008200645 is a good source, it's best to scroll frame by frame). The next records I find are Parochial Registers from Saint Joseph Church in Douro. These start in 1846, the first page contains the baptism of James' daughter, Johanna, with his wife, Mary Fitzgibbons. James and Mary had 6 children, all baptized at Saint Joseph. There is no record of James' death, nor his parents, John and Johanna. I assume that John and Johanna, James' parents, died prior to the 1846 start of church records. It also appears that Saint Joseph's Cemetery wasn't in operation prior to the Parochial Register. James' wife, Mary Fitzgibbons, shows up later in life, with most of her kids, in Clinton, Iowa. She died there in 1899.
Does anybody know about records between 1825 and 1846? More so church, death, burial records that might show relationships. The census starts in 1851.
I assume that, as they were all Roman Catholics, there must have been some church presence during that time.
Thanks all, Maury Dean
