Church and Walsh work together to maintain up-to-date documentation of descendants (including spouses) of pioneer Wilkes resident “Yankee” John Church. They have recorded about 57,000 of these descendants all over the world.

The nickname, “Yankee,” is based on the belief that he was born in a northern state, possibly Massachusetts.

Yankee John had a total of 13 children in two marriages, setting the stage for generations of Church families with a dozen or more children. The children in his first marriage were Amos, John Jr., Benjamin, Phillip, Martha and Elijah. In his second marriage, they were Elisha, Joel, Aaron, Gabriel, Elizabeth “Betsy,” Massey and Anna.

:
First, I am a direct descendant of Clarana Church, 1842-1874, whose husband was Silas Kauble 1837-1907.

In my research have found, per Find-a-Grave, the parents of John "Yankee John" Church are listed as John R. Church and Anna Marie Curtis. I also have listed in my trees the direct line of Church ancestors dating to 1548.

I'm new to this communication thing with others regarding information I may have regarding family tree members with others of interest. I am willing to share whatever information I have. I also have photographs (some tintype) of Church family members as well as Civil War letters of correspondence between Uncle Walker Church and a Church cousin of his if anyone is interested. These items have been passed down to me through my maternal great grandmother, whose mother was Clarana Church Kauble.

This is the tree for the John Church born in Western Massachusetts in 1732. He went to New York, not North Carolina.

John Church, Jr.

I am very hesitant to use Find a Grave bios unless I have corroborating information. Thank you Erica for posting the article from the Wilkes Journal Patriot. I hope to be in touch with one of the compilers of descendants to find out more information.

thanks for the clarification. I am a rookie when it comesbto the use of documentation so I occasionally find errors.
