Some genealogy websites record Sarah Matilda Mills's husband as John Cox (sometimes John Edward Cox) as being born in Tasmania, and sometimes as also marrying Ruth Hance Hillier. This IS NOT the John Cox that married Sarah Matilda Mills. Her husband was born in Bedfordshire, England about 1869. This date is based on his age listed as 26 years on his 2nd son Charles James Mills birth record who was born in Collingwood, Victoria on 5 March 1865. In 1901 Charles James married Katharine Roach and died 15 Sep 1945 in Fitzroy and is buried in the Melbourne General Cemetery. Sarah Matilda and John Cox's 1st son was born on 19 Feb 1864 in Morven, Tasmania. He died about Jan 1865 aged 11 months in Victoria. Sarah Matilda died of Tuberculosis on 22 Dec 1865 in Collingwood, Victoria and was buried in an unmarked grave in Melbourne General Cemetery. Nothing is known of the later life of her husband John Cox whose occupation is given a "Fruiterer" on his son's birth record and marriage announcement in Launceston
Hello Wayne,
Thanks for that great info.
On the matter of John Edward Cox, I believe there is his profile on Geni already here: Edward William John Cox
In fact, That profile has 2 brothers: Edward John Cox and John Edward Cox
who just about share his dates of interest. Only one is married to Ruth though.

A further clarification: The John Cox shown on his son Charles James Cox's 5 March 1865 Birth Record in Collingwood, Victoria a father and informant is recorded as having been born in Bedfordshire, England. That categorically rules out any Tasmanian born "John Cox's" as the husband of Sarah Matilda Mills.
