The above mentioned are my grandparents, However there appears to be some mystery as to my grandfather’s parentage, most documents show his parents as being Patrick Harrigan and Bridget Weston from Carrick-on-Suir, Tipperary, Ireland. Indeed this is recorded in the 1911 Census of the town. But looking carefully at the census,Patrick and Bridget had been married 7 years, but my grandfather was aged 9 years old. His military Attestation papers record Bridget Weston as his mother. However, the marriage certificate for my grandparents records John Harrigan, a Labourer as his Father and one of the Witnesses was Patrick Harrigan. Patrick Harrigan had a Brother called John Harrigan who married Bridget Hynes. Is this the John Harrigan on the Marriage certificate. I have been unable to locate any birth certificate or baptism records for my grandfather, however I have seen records for his alleged siblings! Finally when I type the name Harrigan into DNA matches on both Ancestry and MyHeritage I get less than 25 combined total, whereas other names I enter, I receive hundreds of hits, I.e. Ryan, Hynes, Myers, Wall, Stewart, Sullivan and also some of my grandfathers siblings descendants who are coming back as DNA matches, it says that they are half cousins. Can anyone help me to shed some light on this matter please. I would be eternally grateful for any help.
