CPT Nathaniel enthusiasts, I am a descendant of Nathaniel via Stephen (son to Elizabeth Clayton).
I have recently acquired the book "The Nathan Reids of Virginia in the March of Freedom" by Elizabeth Reid Austin and Helen Reid Roberts, 1976, 1st Ed.
As I continue to digest the contents of the book that these two Reid descendants have offered I notice a clear issue in the genealogy right away. For some time I have wondered why I would see Stephen Reid's name stylized two ways. First with the middle name Clayton along with an Esq suffix and the other just as Stephen Reid, no middle name or suffix.
In the aforementioned book, there is no mention of Elizabeth Clayton however, they document a union with issue to "Isabel Brown", a 1st cousin of Joseph E. Brown, Gov of Georgia from 1858-1862, in Pendleton, SC. They had issue:
Ambrose Reid, b. 1793, d. 1869
Elizabeth Brown Reid,b. 1796, d. 13 Dec 1863
Stephen C. Reid, b. 1797
Nathaniel Reid, Jr., b. 1799
Joesph B. Reid b. 1805
I have generated a family tree for reference and to use as you feel fit. It will be posted as stand-alone graphic.
