I will never be able to get my tree online because the site is not in good shape. Too much work..nothing is uniform, I cant dont anything but hit the merge button over and over. no time for anything else. Not worth the effort for something that will never be complete and then you have to pay to do it. I think I wasted my money

Yes, Geni will always be a work in progress, but when family groups are complete, they are the best possible. So work on the lines that are incomplete.

So much has happened on Geni since I came to use it "a little" eleven years ago - improvements I mean! I work with updates there as well as in a genealogical software on my own computor, so I can tell when and where something good happens on Geni. Naturally I've been able to find data and above all, sources given for data on Geni, and have that way been able to follow up what's right or wrong in data I have gathered from sources, literature and communication with other researchers or messengers.
There are absolutely lots of improvements for us to do - together - on Geni! That job is quite fun!
I say, it would never have been obvious to any of us how much we must check again in our research, if we had not got this huge chance Geni gives us, to compare our data with the data so many interested genealogists now have possibilities to see and analyze with critical minds, discuss and eventually modify when necessary.
Keep up the good work!
/ Thanks!

Well said, Erik. Geni is a rules based database. Have learned, follow the rules. No one is forcing anyone to be here. But, another rule: When leaving Geni, the collaborative tree stays. It can not go away. People get mad about that like they get mad that the "tree" of Geni is a collaborative data base with one profile per person, not multiples or duplicates. The "merge" word is more of of a "combine" of two exact same profiles. When at first, I thought merge meant merge, I could not get the hang of the merge, it was more like a merge in lane in traffic and kept waiting for a click option to make a son or daughter LINK to a parent and ended up with about 4 duplications each person. Private setting....another rule: Long deceased are to be public. It is sad to watch people try to make a private "tree" on Geni. It is frustrating for them and for others who have to watch it and deal with it. There ought to be a Geni video for newbies.
