I control the DNA kit at FamilyTreeDNA for a second cousin. Obviously, he has given me permission. When I tried to transfer the results to Geni, it was denied saying I did not have permission. How do I demonstrate that I do indeed have permission to transfer the results to my tree on Geni?

Thanks,

Jerry

That depends on if the profile on Geni for your 2nd Cousin is claimed or not.

Does the cousin login to Geni? Then, you would need to login to Geni as your 2nd Cousin in order to link the profile of your 2nd Cousin to the results from FamilyTreeDNA.

If the cousin has accessed Geni from an invite, but has never set their password, then they are in a half-claimed state. This could be the source of the error you received.

If the cousin has never been invited to Geni, then I don't know why that error would show. You may need to be a manager of the profile in order to link it to FamilyTreeDNA.

So Jerry, which situation applies to you?

Probably because the Geni profile is claimed, - i.e a user profile, and he is the only one that can update the Geni profile.

I created the profile earlier this year for my cousin. I never sent him an invitation and am listed as creating the profile. How does one become a manager of a profile?

Thanks, I do appreciate the assistance!

Someone else might have invited him by entering an email address - you have as many as 25 Geni users within your family,. Without any details I cannot give you a better answer.

I suggest that you temporary add a twin you connect the DNA to, and initiate a merge with the original profile.

After talking with my second cousin tonight, he thinks I may have sent him an invitation a while back that he never acted on, which would be an explanation for all of this. At this point, am I able to send him another invitation or do I have to wait until he establishes a profile on Geni himself?

Thanks!

Even if he re-joins Geni you would still not be able to connect the FTDNA to his profile, unless he edits his permissions to allow family to edit his profile.
