Brittain was born about 1734 in Bertie Co., NC., the son of Benjamin Fuller and Sarah (Mary?) Elizabeth Duke. About 1770 he married Elizabeth Duke (1750-1827), daughter of Darling Duke.
In 1776 Brittain served in the Provincial Congress from Wake Co., NC. He was a captain during the Revolutionary War, as referenced on the pension applications of Thomas Jones and William Crabtree. He was appointed constable of Randolph County on 15 Dec 1779, and was sworn to attend grand jury proceedings on 14 Mar 1780.[1]

I Britain Fuller of the state of No Carolina Randolph Country being weak of Body but of perfect Mind and Memory do this twenty eighth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred & five make and ordain this to be my last will & Testament in manner & from following.
Item: I give & bequeath unto my Beloved wife Elizabeth Fuller one feather Bed & furniture one horse bridel & Saddle one negro Girl by the name of Suck one negro by the name of Lewis and all my money notes & Judgements.
Item: I Give & Bequeath unto my Daughter Margaret Jordan one negro women Name Sal with what I have already given her.
