Robert Foote of Shalford
A Yoeman in old England was a Freeholder, next under the rank of Gentleman, and in the early times one who owned a small landed estate. Robert of Shalford was such a man. He owned property in Shalford and Royston. He was the son of John Foote of Royston and the father of Nathaniel Foote the Settler.

He married Joan Brooke June 18, 1576 in St Leonard's Eastcheap, London, Eng, daughter of John Brooke and Elizabeth Watman. Joan was born June 18, 1559 in London, England, and died October 10, 1634 in St Leonard's Parish, London, England. She was a member of the leatherseller company of London.

He was the brother of John Foote of London, and the father of Nathaniel Foote "The Settler."

Robert Foote of Shalford, Essex, yeoman, 27 January 1608, proved 15 Feb 1608.

• To the poor in the parish twenty shillings.
• to the poor in Wethersfield 20s.
• To my well beloved wife Joan, during her natural life, all such yearly rent as to me is reserved out of my lease of certain tenements which I hold for divers years yet enduring by the grant of Sir Robert Chester knight and lying and being in the town of Royston, the yearly rent whereof to me reserved is at this present eight pounds.
• I give her also one annuity of four pounds to be paid during her natural life by my son Robert.
• To my son James 5oF.
• To son Daniel 40L at four and twenty.
• The same each to sons, Nathaniel, Francis, and Josua at like ages .
• To daughter Elizabeth Foote 40L at day of marriage or at age of thirty.
• To son Joseph my lease and term of years in a certain hopground called Plomley w hich I hold by lease from Mr. Josyas Clarke and his wife.

Robert & Dionis are fine, Richard Foote, II Richard Foote, of London, a merchant & John Foote, Gent. need work

They are from Cornwall, not London, so I have trouble accepting the accuracy. ill make a separate John son of Robert & Dionis based on Foote Family. He won’t be born in Cornwall.

Richard was born in 1632 and is the son of John Foote and Ellen Barwis. He is the father of Richard Foote, who settled in Virginia. He died about 1683.
