Since I first uploaded a Gedcom file of 400+-, I now have one that is close to 1,500. Pros and cons on replacing the existing tree?

When adding a new gedcom you will have a huge job merging your new uploaded profiles with those that already exist on Geni, and that is a job you will have to do. Depending on how much time you're spending on Geni, with the amount of your first upload and the amount of your second upload, I would guess you will need weeks if not months to merge or the doublettes.

Any possibility that you can make gedcoms adding mostly new profiles to Geni using those you already have added as starting points. That would make you job of merging doublettes a lot easier after the new gedcom uploads.

Good advice.
Also look into using SmartCopy instead of a GedCom import - I think it allows more control over what profiles you add, and it allows for updating existing profiles rather than duplicating -- and it does not create all those horrible meaningless "documents" a Gedcom import creates when importing from a well documented Tree (at least from Ancestry, not sure about other places)

Remi/Lois - Thanks very much for your reply. I was actually considering deleting the "old" tree and importing a new Ancestry GedCom with the 1,500 individuals to start over. I'm not a big Geni user, I use it mostly to check results or look for differences with my Ancestry research. Any comments on this strategy?

It's not possible to delete your tree anymore because some of your profiles are already merged with profiles of the same person that was already a part of Geni before you imported your gedcom, like your 3rd GGF: Allen Turner

So your only viable course of action is to find persons on Geni that doesn't have any ancestry/descendants on Geni but you have that in your Ancestry tree and then export a gedcom or use SmartCopy to add persons to Geni that way. Doing it this way will lessen the number of duplicates so there won't be that many to merge afterwood.
