Private User, here is a useful discussion that describes some of the issues with putting in locations. I am not sure it has ever been settled. Part of it seems to be the "fields" we have to fill in on profiles. I am dealing with fixing a mess of people who lived in South Carolina, not the Seychelles, but because SC was placed in the "country" field in a massive gedcom upload, it is what it is. I work on it as I can until I get tired and then go back and work on it again. The gedcom owner is like Elvis and has "left the building."

So even in France
Similar in South Africa
----- also saw born 1748 Washington DC , USA today.

She is my 30th Great Grandmother.

Before the Revolution, there was no department.

Adelaide od Tours is my 29th great grand mother.

So ?
Will no one correct the place of birth and place of death ?

updated to Tours, Touraine, West Francia

Should be Tours ,Holy Roman Empire

No France existed at that time as well

West Francia established in 843 after treaty of Verdun .
So place of death now correct for time of death but not for d.o.b.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Verdun

it was split into 3 kingdoms in 843, West, Middle and East Francia

It depends what you want. You can write tha ancient name and the name after Révolution (Tours, Indre-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire, France)
I write the modern name

880 Barcelona ,Spanish March ,West Francia.
A good example as well.
My ancestor born in Gdingen not Gdynia
No Czar of the USSR in 1900.
No USA before 1776
Using modern names is wrong as it confuses history and origins.

Adelaide of Tours is my 28th great grandmother.
