I am new on this site. I see that most of the interest here is on the past century or two.
I just have stumbled on Arad and its heritage because I have been questioning certain entries eg Michael Deutsch my 5th Great Uncle 1723/1787
shown as died Arad (Romania) but reading the history it becomes a real possibility
My ELIAS people go back to Obuda and the Lajus ut community where they held positions.. Workwise it appears Eduard Elias my great grand father was a grain merchant.. I do not know if he ran a horse and cart style business or a larger activity. His father was Hermann Hirsch Elias who figures in a census
My great grandfather married Deutsch but my wonderful Stammbuch narrated only a vertical style family with nothing about siblings etc
I hope I am not intruding by asking for help on this period in the history of Arad I look forward to help and advice ERIC ELIAS....
Possibly related to first Jewish citizen of Arad.............. Possibly NOT
