Uncle Charlie ❤️ was very close to me and I loved him very much.
He lived upstairs and my mother, father and I downstairs. I don’t remember him living anywhere else. Bubbe and Zadie lived with him.
He liked sitting and talking with my Dad.
Since we didn’t have a car, Charlie would take us everywhere.
He was a wonderful swimmer. He would go out to Revere Beach and go out way into the ocean and swim for miles.
As far as I know he hardly dated and was a confirmed bachelor.
He counted his pennies and didn’t like to spend money. The family thought that’s why he didn’t marry- he would then have to spend his money !
He did die at the Lowell nursing home. It was very sad because he would try to leave and they had to tie him down in his wheelchair.
Perhaps he also had Alzheimer’s? I don’t remember for sure.
He was in the U.S. military and I have a photo of him in his uniform. I hope I still have it. I will look and see.
I remember Uncle Charlie as such a quiet man. But he was always so nice. Linda, your suspicion about Alzheimer's is a good one. My sense was that the Korim family, as they aged, were plagued with dementia - I know my dad started becoming forgetful as he aged - not Alzheimer's but definitely the beginning of something like it. Had he lived longer I think there would have been these concerns.
