I'm confused.

Lewis Whitehead is shown with one wife and no partner or ex-anything. So where did the Mary Witt shown as this Elizabeth's mother come into the connections?

Lewis' wife IS named Mary but her maiden name is shown as Watkins. I checked and she doesn't show another husband or partner with the surname Witt.

Lewis Whitehead

Mary Whitehead

Mary Witt:

Mary Witt

Doesn't show she is a wife or partner of anyone or anyone's daughter. Her only connection is as the mother of Elizabeth (Witt) Page who is supposedly the daughter of Lewis Whitehead.

This Elizabeth seems to be the illegitimate daughter of Mary Witt since she bears her mother's maiden name and not the Whitehead name.

OR, are Mary Witt and this Elizabeth even correctly connected to this family? There are no notes referencing any of the connections in question in any of their About sections.

I always question when the surnames and relationships are clear and have to stop in my tracks rather than continue tracing on those lines. So any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks.

Dear Debbie,

Allow me to confuse you even more. I did my DNA test at ancestry and my tree there is more complete than my Geni tree and it shows Elizabeth Whitehead as the mother of William Page Jr and wife of William Page. Her parents are shown as Lewis Whitehead and Elizabeth Britt. This is as far as my tree goes on her line. Britt and Whitt are similar and I can see how one might be mistaken for the other if the writing on the document is terrible but Mary and Elizabeth look nothing alike. I was wondering how you are connected to Elizabeth Page (she is my 5th great grandmother) so I asked geni how you and I are connected and evidently I have a connnection to your ex and to you kind of on my mother's side. The Pages and Whitesides are direct line ancestors on my father's side.

I just purchased Geni Pro a few minutes ago and there is a basic plan to my heritage that should be there also in the next 48 hrs. Hopefully I can figure out who she really is or isn't with access to all of this new information. Or maybe someone else knows who is who and where they fit. I should be able to dig deeper into this later this week. Sorry I don't know anything else.

Mary Ann Nail (Whitehead/Whitfield) was disconnected from her parent Lewis Whitehead and sibling Elizabeth Page (Witt) by Erica Howton.

The data conflicts have not been worked out so she is likely just suffering from collateral damage and the tree needs worked around her.
My line by the way... I descend from Arthur Whitehead, III and Isabella Whitehead
I don't imagine anyone working on this Witt for a little while

Jeanne Gayle Brewer can you tag your Britt?

Elizabeth Page (Witt) was merged with Elizabeth Page (Whitehead)

Maybe Erica Howton can take a look?

I undid merges. Look to me like the same man two marriages, and the wives were accidentally merged - but I’m not going to guess. Write bios with sources in the about, then re merge as seems right.

So undoing merges and sourcing have unmasked Elizabeth Page as wife of William Page, Sr - and he was not the same person as William Page son of Exolheath Page who married married first Ann England, married second Elizabeth Whitt.

However the William who married a Whitehead seems to be of Goochland also, so could be from one of Exelhead’s (somewhat theoretical) brothers.

There’s a terrific book published at FamilySearch, take a look!

Jeanne Gayle Brewer thanks for that input. I'm not related to Elizabeth Witt but came across the confusion surrounding her while tracing a pathway she showed up in and I didn't know where to go from there because I didn't want to use a bad pathway. However, I just checked and you and I are cousins on the Hinnant lines, which may be how I ran into Elizabeth as I was working on some Ancestry DNA matches on my Hinnant and related lines.

Thank you, Erica Howton!
I'll take a look and see if there is anything I can contribute

Jeanne Gayle Brewer the reason I would like to know which Britt for you is that I have a close DNA match everywhere (AncestryDNA and 23&me and everywhere I uploaded the raw DNA from them) with a person and her mother. Britt. Also, I see your surname is Brewer and my 3rd great grandmother was a Brewer. She, my third great grandmother's mother was said to be Blackfoot or Cherokee. I am curious there may be a connection for the Britt and Brewer families.

Cynthia Curtis, A183502, US7875087 I haven't added Elizabeth Britt to my tree because I got merged in with another tree and it shows my Elizabeth Page (Whitehead) mother as Mary Watkins. I didn't want to mess with her yet because I don't have much info on Elizabeth Britt so I'm not sure about her. She was born in 1717 in Isle of Wight VA and died 9/10/1795 in Southampton Va. The only records for her are a census, a marriage record and a dozen other Ancestry trees. I have several DNA matches to her husband and his parents where they are the mcra but none to her and I don't know who her parents are. I really haven't spent much time looking at her yet. If I find anything I am happy to share. Brewer is my married name I am really a Gillespie so there is not going to be a Britt/Brewer connection through me. However my husband's family believes that there is Native American in their family. John and his sister have both been looking but neither has found anyone yet. They are not anywhere near as obsessed with this as I am.

Jeanne Gayle Brewer ah! I certainly understand the not wanting to do something in Geni. It took me years to work on some of my very close lines that had a duplicate here. The Native American component makes it especially difficult, nerve wracking...

I only tested in 2017 and at that time my DNA at Ancestry showed a lot of trace like Australian aboriginal and Melanesia which of course was probably my Native American. My uncle did DNA way before I did and he did only at 23&me so I also wanted to do the test there so I could compare "apples to apples" so to speak. His DNA test showed Native American-- the yellow one-- and a lot of other stuff that went away with each update and when I called to ask them about getting a report of his original results per chromosomes they said they do not keep these things and that he should retest because of the chip. He is gone. That is never going to happen. Cremated so then there's that. I myself got a result of Native American but the RED one meaning Asia and now that is gone so I KNOW we have NA because I know some of them by name but also there is a REASON the DNA companies will not give a result of Native American ancestry. At Ancestry, there is an article about it, if it is still up.

My african ancestry is still showing at 23&me but less so/smaller.... Still have "unassigned" and who knows what THAT could be. And the TIMELINE seems to be cutting off the further back.
But we all know that America is a unique experience and many of us are descended from at least three of the different people groups who were here then. I do not like the word race and I believe we are all one and we are all the same except for inherited physical traits and perhaps culture which comes from where and when we were born and raised.
I know that once I fia Native American ancestor, the line becomes a dead end as far as genealogy goes. I know a whole lot of folks get tangled up in trying to go back to some of the great chiefs but until DNA is available for them like with Genghis Khan and others, we cannot know for certain.
The African ancestors are difficult to find and for different reasons and many of our thought to be NA are actually African/mulatto. I welcome all the help I can get in looking for our ancestors. It is difficult to NOT get obsessed, Jeanne Gayle Brewer! lol
