Hello,
This is my grandfather (X's many). I am trying to research to see how he received the title "Sir" or if that was his first name. Does anyone have information on this? Also, do we have a family crest or coat of arms?

Thank you so much!

We have another problem with our great grandfathers. The line to Sir Christopher Deland is not documented. In Geni Benjamin Deland (circa 1656- before November 23, 1691) my 7th great grandfather doesn't have a birthplace or birthdate. I find this so often with the first generation to immigrate to America in the 1600s. Per Geni.com with no sources states Bejamin's father is Claude Charles DeLand (born 1633), but per FamilySearch.org his father is Philip Deland (about 1633-December 11, 1708) with two sources (Records of courts of Essex and the "Deland Family of America" by Frederick Deland Leete a bishop in the Methodist Church. With this information, I think Geni.com has Benjamin's father incorrectly listed. - Something more to think about. Sorry, I don't have any information on the "Sir" part. - John

Thank you for responding! You are correct in that the information differs between the two sources. It is interesting to see how the information changes. I wonder where they got their info from. I generally go to several sources to see what information is listed just to see if it is consistent. Are there any pictures of the Deland's? It is fun researching our family! Jill

No George Deland is my 6th great grandfather and he lived before photos were invented His daughter married a Kempton and her daughter married a Nye, my fourth great grandmother. I agree I thoroughly enjoy doing genealogy, but I do all my work on FamilySearch.org now because it's free and includes documentation.
