It has been claimed that it was Kathrine or Katharine Sloan, formerly the wife of Francis Marshall, a resident of Maybole parish in Ayrshire, Scotland, who married Captain Hugh Montgomery in Colonial America in 1771, but it would appear that this is not possible.
Francis Marshall and Katherine Sloan had sons named Francis and Thomas, born in 1765 and 1767, respectively (both of whom are mentioned in her profile overview), but they also had another three sons who were born later, that is Laurence Marshall, whose baptism was registered at Maybole on 23 April 1769; Matthew Marshall, whose baptism was registered at Maybole on 27 July 1774; and John Marshall, whose baptism was registered at Maybole on 8 December 1783.
It seems clear that Francis Marshall’s wife was not the woman of the same name who married Captain Hugh Montgomery.
