“ SUMMARY: The document below is the Prerogative Court of Canterbury copy of the last will and testament, dated 1 May 1518 and proved 22 January 1519, of John Danyell, esquire, of Felsted, Essex, servant of John de Vere (1442-1513), 13th Earl of Oxford.
The testator’s nephews, ‘Doctor Knightley and William Knightley, his brother’, appear to have been the sons of Sir Thomas Knightley of Bent, Staffordshire.”
This is supported by the Visitation of Essex and by Stirnet. Thomas Knightley of Bent
However, “According to Rye, William Knightley “was the son of John Knightley and grandson of John Knightley of Calais, who died 1451. At this point I have not sought to verify this statement; however, a brief survey of available information suggests the Knightley line may extend, if proven, several generations before this William Knightley.“ William Knightley was the son of John Knightley and Maria Daniell (daughter of Thomas Daniell, miles).”
This is supported by the Knightley Pedigree:

Fun, right?
So far I’m sticking with this source:

The testator’s nephews, ‘Doctor Knightley and William Knightley, his brother’, appear to have been the sons of Sir Thomas Knightley of Bent, Staffordshire. See: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/168672667/thomas-knightley
The testator’s nephew, William Knightley (d. 27 January 1548?), married firstly Margaret Pawe, and secondly Agnes Hare. His daughter, Winifred Knightley, was the mother of Sir Edward Coke. See Boyer, Allen, D., Sir Edward Coke and the Elizabethan Age, (Stanford: Stanford University Press, 2003), p. 2 at: https://books.google.ca/books?id=lkEv6eccC44C&pg=PA2
So apparently the Daniels were an “interesting” family.
Quite a bit about them here:
