You make it sound very easy.... but I am increasingly frustrated. I have been trying regularly now for several weeks, and again tonight, using the Geni link provided to connect to and attach my FTDNA results, and either I have a misunderstanding of process, or Geni and FTDNA have a problem with their process.. I get a message that there is a conflicting entry and I should get a close relative tested (which I can not) ... and the R-M269 value continues to appear in the Y DNA box on my profile, and those of my direct male ancestors. I just would like to get the erroneous propagated value removed, I really do not care if my value appears, (I M253 at the Y111 level with BigY ) My only intent is for the wrong value to disappear and it is not intuitive to me how that can be made to happen. Any help would be appreciated.
It sounds to me like somewhere a NPE (non-parental event) has happened, but it is currently unknown where in the tree, that is why the advice is to test another relative. It is pretty tricky when something like this is in play, because some people don't like to discover that one of the ancestor isn't there genetic ancestor.
Maybe if you post your question again in https://www.geni.com/projects/Y-DNA-haplogroups/3717 then more people will see it and you may get some more advice / input.

Thanks for your reply. I have a I-M23 Y Chromosome match with 19 others in FTDNA who trace their male lines back to the same individual. (James Rogers of New London Connecticut b. 1615). so it is highly unlikely that the NPE is in my line (in fact, another test with CRI Genetics confirms the I1 haplogorup for me). I have been in communication with the individual I believe who posted the R-M269 value from a FTDNA test of her male cousin. His haplogroup result is available on FTDNA and is not close to the cluster of 20 who claim the line to James Rogers b. 1615. I have provided correspondence to show that 2 of the 20 I-M253 matches were reviewed by a genealogist in 2006, One of those two separates from her line 4 generations back...
My hope continues to be that the R-M269 value will disappear for me on this public tree. Whether I am inept or the link to FTDNA to attach personal Y-Chromosome results does not work, I can not override the R-M269 value that appears for me. I will copy this and post it to other site as you have suggested.
