Dwight Lanmon Writes:

I am researching a late 17th-century English glass bottle seal that was found in the Thames in London. It bears the arms of Washington with the cadency of a fourth son (martlet). I believe that the possible original owner of that bottle is Richard Washington (1660-1724), son of John Washington (1623-60), and grandson of Richard Washington (1592-1642). What I am hoping to find is that the grandfather, Richard, used the martlet cadency on his coat of arms -- and that there is a depiction of that on a document or object. I can send you a photograph of the bottle seal and a graphic depiction of the coat of arms I am seeking.

i really have nothing to add to this discussion, since i have done no independent research on the washingtons. good luck and

happy easter!
