I don't believe this Mary married both Josias and Josiah Fugate.

As previously mentioned about these lines, there are three men who have been confusing the connections: I tried to list the link for each but for some weird reason two of them are giving me the same URL even though they're totally different, so here they are this way:

1. Captain Josiah Fugate, Sr.
1740
Orange County, Virginia
Death: March 18, 1824 (83-84)
Ralls County, Missouri, United States
Place of Burial: Ralls, Missouri, United States
Immediate Family:
Son of Randolph Fugate, I and Mary Ann Fugate (Deelwood)
Husband of Eleanor Perry and Elizabeth Fugate (Smothers)

2. Captain Josiah Fugate - HAS TOO MAY SAME-NAME WIVES
February 27, 1688
King George County, Virginia, Colonial America
Death: March 18, 1757 (69)
King George County, Virginia, Colonial America
Immediate Family:
Son of James Fugate, II and Dorothy Pettit
Husband of Mary Fugate (Martin); Mary Frances Fugate (Martin) and Mary Fugate (Martin)

3, Captain Josias Fugate
circa 1688
King George, King George County, Virginia, United States
Death: before March 18, 1757
Virginia, United States
Immediate Family:
Son of Peter Fugate and Frances Fugate (Mould)
Husband of Mary Fugate (Martin)

# 1 is easy to keep from confusing with the others because nothing is the same. #2 and # 3 are the two that need to be sorted out because everything is the same but the parents and #2 has three wives with the same name.

I can tell from a glance that these lines have been problematic for some time. They even confuse me. I'm not going to touch any of it because there are already enough people involved, but just wanted to point out the issue with three same-name wives, etc.

Thanks, I tried repeatedly and those two kept giving me the same hyperlink. But my laptop is acting up tonight so it may be that instead of a fluke on Geni. I appreciate the assist on that. :)

The Josias or Josiah who married Mary Martin often spelled his name both ways. He was not a Captain when he first came to the Colonies then later he became a Captain. He had a son that is often referred to Josiah Jr. Josias's mother is Dorothy Pettus according to a Bible record and his father is James Lawton Fugate, The first person I know who married Dorothy Pettus in 1675 was James II Mariner Planter Fugate born 1652 in the Isle of Wight England. Son of James I born 1630 died 8-June-1651 age 21 and Emaline Lambe Fugate. There are 3 Martin Fugate's in my line. To my knowledge there is no concrete data on when Josias or Josiah Fugate was born we know for sure when he died, because if he is the son of Dorothy Pettus as the Bible record states Dorothy and James II were only physically together from from 1675 to early 1683, so Josias's birthday of 1689 cannot be right if he is Dorothy's son. Robert Jason (13) Fugate

Robert, I only fairly recently discovered I'm a Fugate descendant and I've found the lines very confusing. I've been trying to backtrack from my ancestor Ann (Fugate) Jarratt born 3/14/1680 in Spesutia Creek, Baltimore County, Maryland up her ancestral line to my Fugate ancestors.

I have a lot of DNA matching kin on Ancestry with Fugate ancestors but when I look at their trees they either don't take them back very far or don't all use the same info and then the Geni connections have only added to the confusion. lol

The fact that you have info from a family Bible is reassuring that those connections would be correct. It's not what I had, so I'm changing my info in my Ancestry tree to match what you shared and I hope I can eventually get the rest of it sorted out correctly. So, thank you for sharing that.

I can tell you that the Possible Fathers for Ann 1680 are Peter Fugate Born 1650 and James II Mariner Planter Fugate born 1652 both were married in that time frame and there are children we cannot really assign to anyone.

Robert, thanks for that info. I had seen Peter b. 1650 as her father but not James II. I appreciate the additional info.

For Aussie first settlers where I multiple parents have been suggested I usually disconnect them from all the parents and create an unknown parent and add notes in the overview. Here is an example {unknown father of Daniel Clarke}

Perhaps it is time to do something similar here.

I like that, Leanne. At least it gives folks the info they need to continue researching, if they chose to do so and avoids creating pathways that are likely to be incorrect. Good job!

I assign birth dates to the to Fugate's I am referring to in order to not get lost.

I would like to see a copy of that family bible please which says that Dorothy is Josias mother. I think alot of other people too. We all need evidence not hearsaying.James born 1652 was not born on the Isle of Wight, He was born in Stepney, London. So says the church record. His father James has also not died 1651. He got married on June 8 1651.And this James was from the Isle of Wight.
Another son was William who died as an infant. No other child. James then died and Eme got married to Nicholas Johnson who also died. She came with her only son the America and married again.James her son married Dorothy Pettit. No children mentioned.
