Elizabeth Hartley Saunders was not a half sister of anybody but all the children of Alfred Moorcroft and Mary Ann nee Meats were brothers and sisters.
Mary Ann Meats was the daughter of Ann Meats
nee Hartley. The information above described as belonging to Elizabeth Ann is actually Elizabeth Hartley. She was my great grandmother married to William Ledgerton Saunders"
I think I have found what happened to cause such confusion on the tree. It is the result of a merge. James Alfred Moorcroft b 7/10/1819 two different profiles, one as James Alfred Moorcroft and one as Alfred Moorcroft. A merge happened on the tree at Mary Ann Meats who looks as if she married two men: an Alfred Moorcroft and a James Alfred Moorcroft. The problem probably stems from the fact that James Alfred Moorcroft seems to have gone by the name Alfred to differentiate himself from his father James Moorcroft b 9 July 1791. On most documents he appears as Alfred Moorcroft.
Likewise Elizabeth Ann Hartley Saunders (nee Moorcroft), Mary Ann Meats' and (James) Alfred Moorcroft's daughter , does not appear on all documents by all her given names. Sometimes she is Elizabeth Ann Saunders (nee Moorcroft) and sometimes Elizabeth Hartley Saunders (nee Moorcroft).
I will attempt to do the necessary merges so that Mary Ann Meats only marries once and Elizabeth Ann Hartley Saunders doesn't have a different father from her siblings.
Please be patient with me as while I do the merges, there may be some duplications which will take a few days to resolve. Contributors may need to approve merges to help iron this out. This is a well populated and shared tree so I don't want to lose any of the collaborative research efforts.
Thank you,
Michele
