From WikiTree: "There are only a few known records of William's existence and life in Henrico County, Virginia. There is no documentation for his birth date, location or parents. The father associated with William here William Charles Augustus Womack, is a fictional person created in 1889 by John Warburton Womack in order for John to claim descent from two bishops of the Church of England. This biography was debunked as fraudulent in the early 1900s but is still being used today. For more information see John Warburton Womack Ancestry - Fraud." Michael:

Thank you so much for posting that nice bit of proof, Michael. I've been telling people for years that William Charles Augustus Womack -- and various versions of said name -- noted as our William Womack's father was a bunch of hooey, but I don't think many, if any at all believed me. There are some Womack family researchers who tend to have little faith that William, "The Immigrant's" given name was actually William.

Personally, I've taken no position relative to the latter issue, because my head spins aplenty when it comes to "Mary (Jane?) Allan / Allen." Isn't that enough of a bog-down for anyone without muddying the waters further by taking issue with William's given name? I say, "Let a sleeping dog lie." I tend to believe finding any hard evidence relative to William's given name is highly unlikely after thousands of researchers == some of whom were highly qualified and well respected genealogists -- having searched for it for more than 150 years.

What say you, Michael? <wicked grin> Is his name lost to the Ages, or does Hope remain, as Alexander Pope tells us?

Wishing All Womack Researchers Happy Hunting.

I have no idea. I just want to avoid following paths which lead nowhere. And several people here and on other services seem to be specialized in laying out useless and confusing tracks...
