Hello cousin. I think joseph is marys brother. I suspect josephs name is a relation to his grandfather john clemes warren. I do have a dna match on ancestry from that line.

Thanks for the quick reply cuz. I thought mary had Joseph before she married. She would have been 18-20years old. First i found census from 1881 with mary 18 daughter of peter, then i did find a census from 1891 with Joseph living with peter and Joseph was listed as grandson. She married the stephen longdo in 1883. If Steven longdo fathered Joseph before they were married then you should have a dna match with longdo line. What you think.

Yes i definitely have the connection to the longdo line. Do you have a dna test anywhere? I see a shawn helmkay tree on ancestry but i dont match with that shawn (or no test) Im curious though as i had not noticed joseph listed as a gr. Son on the census till you mentioned it. I had overlooked it. Joseph does list his parents as peter and Elizabeth when he was married. On ancestry i have one match that comes through joseph's line. That person matches only with my longdo matches that have helmkay dna as well.

I haven't taken dna test yet , just signed up on ancestry a few days ago. Being a newbie
Im not sure if my tree is public or private but will check. Mine is Shawn Steven Helmkay, father is John Oliver Christopher Helmkay, Grandfather is Walter John Thomas Helmkay, great grandfather is Joseph Helmkay. Then mary is mother of Joseph and i think the Steven longdo who married mary helmkay, thats the one im trying to figure out. Then marys parents are peter helmkay and elizabeth watson or warren.
Personal i think we figured it out. Mary had walter in 1881 with longdo, they married in 1983. Back then children out of wedlock were hidden. So i think peter and Elizabeth raised Joseph while longdo and mary moved to the states and had more kids.
Do you have any helmkay names you are matched with.
Look for my tree, the helmkay side is back to 1700s, i have a book made up by a relative in 1985 that charts the helmkay and many more surnames.
Im in halifax nova scotia canada but most of the helmkays on my branch are in Niagara region of Ontario. My dad was born in Niagara region, moved to halifax to join navy.

Im also looking forward to it :) i sent you a message there. Im also curiously about phillip alonzo helmkay, and whether or not he could be a possible father of joseph. Ibhave very little on him other than dying in an asylum.
