Does anyone know if Henry lived in N Escambia County Fl or Escambia County Al?

James Godwin Henry L. Patterson is recorded in Escambia, Florida, United States for the 1850 US Census, son of Louis and Missouri.

Clarification, he's in the household of Louis but the order of children suggests he's not Louis' son. The online image is terrible quality.

This FamilySearch tree looks well researched and sourced: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/KGCR-ZW4

Im sorry I forgot to tell you thank you for your time in looking into my question.

Im sorry I forgot to tell you thank you for your time in looking into my question.

This is what i am wondering. I have no living relatives that might know for sure, but this story is passsd down. My Grandfather is William Henry Godwin. His mother Clarissy had him about a year before she married Jacob A Godwin. It is said that William Henry (1856) ws the biological son of Henry Patterson and that Jacob A Godwin adopted William Henry. There is 12 years difference in Henry A Patterson and Clarissy. It is also said a man, they believe was named Henry Patterson, use to help pay for William Henry medical and would sometimes come by the farm and pick him up. Seeing as how these type situations were keep somewhat quite back then, I just cant find a tight connection to Henry Patterson and William Henry. I dont understand this method of researching, i get confused with all the different names and dates, and that brought me to asking the queston. One of my cousins did a DNA and he said no match to Godwin. Im really confused as he didnt get matches to a DNA path to suggest his grandfather's line. We share William Henry the blood line. For some reason this has been a real issue that I keep spending too much time on. I had to delete my post and redo it. It was full of missing words. Thank you

DNA is not my area of expertise.

As I understand it you need to find a male descendant of Jacob Godwin (a son's son's son) and compare your DNA to him. If it matches you are both descendants of Jacob, except by your family history you should not match. Instead you need to find a male descendant of Henry Patterson (or alternatively any of Henry's brothers) and if the legend is true your DNA will match that person's.

I can't find any more records for Henry A. Patterson, even the 1850 census is for Henry _L_ Patterson, but that doesn't mean much of anything. Where did your grandfather grow up, was the family farm around Pensacola?

First you need to prove that the Henry _A_ Patterson you are interested in really is the same person as the Henry _L_ Patterson in the 1850 census, then you have to try and find that man's descendants. If he has none you need to research his brother(s) to find their descendants, if they have none then his male cousins.

The information on line is sparce but judging from places of burial of Willam Henry's grandparents (I assume they are burried near where they lived & that makes sence as they homesteaded), and an 1810 Census for Henry Patterson's parents, they all would probably fit in a 20 mile circle. I am guessing that unless some living Pattersons come forward i won't know. My cousin tells me there is a photograph of some Patterson men in a country restruant near there. He said tge men bear a strong resemblance to my dad and to one of my uncles. Hopefully I will get to see it next weekend. If they really do look alike I think I will assume the rumors are true.

Again, thank you for the time and help. It has helped me kinda put together this puzzle.

Good luck, don't forget to check the back of the photo for any notes!
