Eli and Octavia met near his homestead in Deland, Florida where Octavia's family were living close by. The went to Georgia near Eli's folks to get married, and then returned back to Deland and started a family on Eli's homestead. Octavia was the second wife of Eli. It is reported that he divorced his first wife years earlier. His first wife was Martha Reid, and the accounting of his first marriage can be found in the "Volusia County Marriage Book "B", Part 1, 1876-1883, Book B, page 75.
